    I think they glycerol derivatives, try looking that up.

    Sugar doesn’t replace water cells. Some animals increase the sugar concentration in their blood before hibernation. The sugar acts like antifreeze and lowers the freezing point of their tissues by several degrees. Box Turtles do it and I think Wood Frogs also do it. A box turtle won’t freeze until it’s temperature is lowered below 26F/27F. Research Box Turtle hibernation.
